Юность
Год рождения и настоящее имя Гакта неизвестно. День рождения - 4 июля. Сам он несколько раз говорил, что родился в 1540 году. Впоследствии он объяснил это тем, что ему не нравится, когда к человеку относятся предвзято из-за возраста.
Гакт родился на Окинаве, Япония, в семье с очень строгими нравами. В детстве и юности его жизнь подвергалась жесткому контролю со стороны родителей — к примеру, ему было разрешено смотреть только японские и только образовательные телепрограммы. В своей автобиографии он говорит, что когда ему было 7 лет, он едва не утонул. Оказавшись на волоске от смерти, он начал видеть вещи, которых нормальные люди видеть не могут. Испуганные рассказами об окружающих его мертвых людях родители поместили мальчика в лечебницу.
Свое кредо Гакт выражает словами: «Я не желаю проигрывать». Свою жизнь он сравнивает с поединком, а сцену — с рингом. Игре на фортепиано его начали обучать с трех лет, но уже к 7-ми годам он потерял интерес к занятиям. К 11-ти ему удалось бросить уроки, всеми правдами и неправдами вынудив собственных родителей согласиться с этим. Но однажды, придя в гости к школьному другу, он вдруг обнаружил, что тот тоже играет на фортепиано с 3-х лет, причем делает это намного лучше его самого. Гакт воспринял такое положение дел как вызов, и решил во чтобы то ни стало превзойти своего товарища. Он начал усиленно заниматься, и не потому, что вдруг полюбил фортепиано, а именно потому, что «не желал проигрывать». Точно так же он учился и игре на духовых (его отец хорошо играл на трубе) и на ударных инструментах (на них играл его друг). Однако со временем от духовых инструментов пришлось отказаться, так как у него возникли проблемы с зубами.
Когда Гакту исполнилось 17, его мать сказала, что жалеет о том, что позволила ему учиться играть на фортепиано. Эти слова шокировали Гакта, который начал играть по принуждению родителей-музыкантов. Но, получив некоторую свободу, он смог переключить свои интересы с классической на рок-музыку и стал осваивать эстрадные музыкальные инструменты.
Начало карьеры
Музыкальную карьеру Гакт начал работником по обслуживанию ударных в звукозаписывающей студии и тогда же играл на ударных в гаражной группе. Позже он познакомился с Рэном (Ren) и Ю (YOU), они стали играть вместе в группе под названием Cains:Feel. Работа с Malice Mizer
Широкой аудитории Гакт стал известен после того, как был принят солистом в японскую вижуал-кей арт-рок группу Malice Mizer в октябре 1995. С его приходом в музыке группы стали проявляться романтические мотивы. В этот период Malice Mizer достигла пика своей популярности, выпустив самые известные свои альбомы (Voyage ~sans retour~ и Merveilles) и многочисленные синглы.

Сольная карьера Гакта оказалась невероятно успешной, а число его поклонников (так называемых dears) продолжает расти день за днём, причём не только в Японии, но и по всему миру.
В своей музыке Гакт соединяет различные жанры и направления: рок, панк, рэп, классическая и поп-музыка, не опасаясь экспериментов и постоянно стремясь к развитию; сопровождая каждое свое выступление серьезными театрально-хореографическими постановками, в которых сочетает традиционные японские элементы с элементами европейскими.
Необычайно разносторонне одаренный человек, он не ограничивает сферу своей деятельности одной музыкой. В 2003 был снят фильм по его сценарию, Moon Child, где вместе с ним главные роли исполнили Хайд (Hyde)(вокалист известной японской группы L Arc~en~Ciel) и тайваньский музыкант родившийся в США, певец и актер Александер Ли-Хом Ванг (англ. Alexander Lee-Hom Wang, по-китайски Ван Лихун, кит. 王力宏, Wáng Lìhóng). В качестве дополнения к фильму он написал книгу Moonchild: Requiem(Реквием) ( MOON CHILD 鎮魂歌【レクイエム】篇 ). Помимо этой книги он также написал и издал книгу Дзихаку(яп. 自白) автобиографического содержания. Гакт — желанный гость на телевизионных и радио-шоу, популярная модель фото и видео-рекламы. Также он выпускает собственную линию одежды, солнцезащитных очков и серебряных украшений.
Также Гакт участвовал в создании игры Bujingai (Будзингай) для PlayStation 2, : он стал прототипом главного персонажа, Лау Вонга, и озвучил его. Кроме того, он озвучивал персонажа аниме Shin Hokuto no Ken (Син Хокуто но Кэн) — Сэйдзи. Его песни стали саундтреками многих аниме: Shin Hokuto no Ken , Texhnolyze , Gundam Z: A New Translation, а также видеоигры: Final Fantasy VII:Dirge of Cerberus, где он принимал участие в качестве одного из персонажей. Голос Гакта был использован для создания одного из исполнителей в программе Vocaloid — Kamui Gakupo.

Он принял участие в качестве одного из основных сюжетных персонажей в игре Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - предыстории оригинальной Final Fantasy VII, и последней игре в серии на данный момент. Также ходят упорные слухи, что первое его появление в этой серии связано с названием Final Fantasy VIII. Многие сошлись во мнении, что главный герой этой игры был срисован с Гакта. Вопрос: Сейчас мы представляем Гакта в рекламном ролике TSUTAYA DISCAS CM, роскошной презентации их услуг, но… выглядит ли все также роскошно у Вас в реальной жизни? GACKT: У меня есть шеф-повар, но, по правде говоря, нет служанок (смеется). В рекламе меня снимали вместе со служанками, и думаю, что я был бы счастлив, если бы у меня они были по-настоящему. Вопрос: В рекламе было 7 служанок, что бы Вы хотели сделать, если бы они у Вас все же были? GACKT: Честно, ничего. Разве это не радость для души – просто смотреть на них? Вопрос: В течении целой недели, для рекламы, снимали Вашу одежду, так? Самая любимая одежда у Вас какая? GACKT: Халат для ванной. Это же ведь тоже моя одежда. Вопрос: Обычно, чтобы было удобно, Вы одеваете его дома? GACKT: Неа. Чтобы мне было удобно я хожу голым. А вот халат я одеваю после душа. Вопрос: Что, голым?... Ну, и свое любимое DVD тоже нагишом смотрите? GACKT: Когда я смотрю DVD и у меня в гостях много друзей, я на самом деле не хожу голый. Я много смотрю DVD, потому что я очень люблю фильмы. “Стобой сейчас”, “??????” [Вытереть из памяти (дословно) потому что я понятия не имею, что это за дорама], или “Дейзи” к примеру. А еще я приглашаю друзей, чтобы посмотреть ужастики. Пока мы смотрим “Пункт назначения 2 – американские горки”, мы с друзьями попиваем вино (или еще что-то). А еще мы играем в игру “наказание”, если кто-то закроет глаза во время фильма, или закричит. Честно, “Пункт назначения 2” очень страшный. Я его уже где-то раза три смотрел, знаю сюжет и все равно каждый раз в тех же самых местах кричу от страха (смеется). А чтобы фильм был еще страшнее, делаю звук громче. Вопрос: Как-то неожиданно от Вас услышать, что Вы кричите и дрожите от страха. В ролике вы такой “рассеянный, забыли вернуть DVD”, но ваш образ по жизни не очень то напоминает невнимательного человека… GACKT: Ну, можно сказать, что я иногда бываю невнимательным… скажем, бывает, что положу кошелек на крышу машины, отъезжаю и теряю его. Или бывает так, что, не открыв ворота гаража, завожу машину и сдаю назад… Если не считать этих вещей, то я внимательный (смеется). Вопрос: И все же, это ведь не только машины касается. В ролике Вы были в юката, это тоже ваша одежда? GACKT: В общем, да. В тайгадораме Furin Kazan, где я играл полководца Уесуги Кеншина, во время сцен я часто одевал юката. В рекламе у меня юката с репродукцией дракона на спине. Это мне сделал друг из Киото, который владеет магазином, изготавливающим детали для кимоно. Вопрос: Kстати, о друзьях, говорят, что у Вас много друзей из разных стран… когда Вы отдыхаете, часто ли Вы видитесь с друзьями, чтобы посмотреть ужастики? GACKT: Ну, когда у меня большой перерыв в работе, я езжу к друзьям то в Америку, то в Тайвань, Гонконг, Корею, или Францию. Но, так как у меня таких перерывов бывает мало, обычно мои друзья приезжают, чтобы повидаться со мной в Японии. За эти 10 лет мне, как GACKT’у, многие оказывали поддержку, но тот человек, который понимал меня лучше других, главный редактор Foll’s mate господин Тодзио, к сожалению, больше не с нами.
Он очень серьезно относился к выбору материала и записывал все-все, что я говорю.
Он искренне любил и ненавидел, он не работал по принципам коммерции и был очень внимательным.
Он был не очень хорошим писателем, но он всегда оставался самим собой.
Я доверял ему настолько, что когда писал новую песню, то всегда показывал ее ему. Мне было интересно его мнение, я волновался и каждый раз ждал, что же он скажет.
Когда ушел из жизни господин Огата, словами о том, каким он был добрым и великим человеком, успокаивал меня именно Тодзио.
Говорил мне, что нужно жить, храня эти воспоминания в своем сердце, как бы тяжело это не было.
Говорил, что такова моя миссия.
Говорил, улыбаясь, что я должен быть от всего сердца благодарен за то, что встретился с ним.
Улыбался мне, когда я плакал.
Для меня очень важно сохранить в памяти этого большого мишку, который, широко улыбаясь, подходил ко мне и говорил, о том, как удался сегодняшний концерт. Он высказал все, что думает более чем о 20 моих концертах. Для меня важно все, что он делал.
Он лучше всех понимал мир, созданный мной, именно он назвал его MoonSaga.
А когда он сказал, что нужно еще раз попробовать концепцию RR, я был ужасно счастлив, оттого, что снова смогу рассказать эту историю фанатам.
Он был моим главным фанатом.
И несколько лет назад я узнал о его страшном диагнозе – о раке.
Но он решил не сдаваться, он постоянно говорил мне, что хочет сделать все, чтобы выздороветь.
Он решил бороться за жизнь, он улыбался и говорил, что не умрет, пока не увидит конец мира GACKT'а.
Он умер слишком неожиданно.
Слишком рано.
Перед тем как поехать в Америку, я приходил навестить его, спрашивал, нормально ли он себя чувствует. А он снова улыбался и говорил, что он в полном порядке.
Это была последняя фраза, которую я услышал от него.
Я хочу, чтобы он узнал все мои мысли. Узнал, что я очень благодарен ему за то, что мы родились с ним в одну эпоху, что из всех людей я встретился именно с ним, что эти 10 лет мы сражались бок о бок.
Храня в сердце воспоминания о людях, ты понимаешь, зачем ты родился, не следует забывать, как глубок смысл вашей жизни.
Я никогда его не забуду.
Мне действительно одиноко без этой улыбки, но я не могу сделать так, чтобы мир не менялся, чтобы люди оставались в нем, но я обязуюсь сделать мир таким, каким могу его сделать только я.

A Frank Round Table Discussion In The Devil King's Abscence
At last, the WEB MAGAZINE "MONTHLY GG" has started up. First of all, there's a lot of people who have become fans recently. Meeting Gackt... can you tell us about that episode?
Chachamaru("C" below): The first time I met Gaku was during the recording for Vanilla, I think. Do you know anything about that time, You?
You("Y" below): I don't know much, really. But I knew about Chacha from reading about him in guitar magazines (laughs).
C: No, no, it's not like that (big laugh). Gaku was really skinny back then, right?
Y: Yeah, totally!
C: I'm skinny too, but Gaku was so thin you thought he'd just snap in half!
Y: Incidentally, I weighed 10 kilos less than I do now (laughs). It's only you, Chacha that's stayed skinny.
C: Everyone just went and got bigger! Everyone used to be really skinny. And more than just skinny, we all wore shoes with really thick soles. Anyway, when Gaku was worn out, he'd catch a cold and get a fever of about 40 degrees. Even now, it's like he's going to collapse. He'd sway on his feet like some kind of ghost. Back then, Gaku used to get fevers a lot.
-What was your first impression of Gackt?
C: He's somehow like a foreigner!, I thought. To start with, he's tall, and skinny, his shoes were ridiculously high, and his hair was completely white! That, and he had a fever.
Y: Yeah. Anyway, he was skinny and blonde. He bleached it white.
- You knew Gackt from earlier on, right, You?
Y: When I met him, I thought he was like a terribly stern older brother, but...
C: He was stern?
Y: Completely, he had long hair too(laughs)
Y: When the two of us were in the studio used together, I thought "Ah! This person can play drums and stuff!". I thought he had to be older than me.
C: Because he was stern?
Y: Yeah. Because of that, we eventually became good friends... When I asked him if he was in a band, he said "No, but I've been thinking I'd like to start one!". The truth was, there was a guitarist that had caught his eye, when I asked who, he said " Some guy I saw in a band somewhere". "That was ME!!" I said (laughs).
-Because You-san had caught the Devil King's eye from before?
Y: Yeah. But he said "Like hell that was YOU!" and wouldn't believe me at all. When I said "No, it's true~ I have the album! I have video too" "Well, show me! I'm coming to your house!!", he said. He really did come to my house and watch the video, eventually he said "Aah~ It is true!"
C: Kinda like fate, right?
Y: Then when I played him some songs I'd written, he said "Let's start a band together!". In the beginning, we didn't have much time to hang out, but when by chance we both got dumped by our girlfriends, our lives started to overlap exceptionally well. And then the two of us started to go on drives together and stuff.
-Two men driving together?? What sort of places did you go?
Y: Gaku would suddenly say "Let's go someplace nice!" and then we'd be heading up some completely unpaved mountain road. We'd keep going up and up, the car rattling so much you bumped your head. And then, we'd arrive at this tiny dam in the mountains. A place where you say, "We found that kind of place?!". We'd break into places that were blockaded. Saying "I don't usually go to these kinds of places", I went.
C: That's young people for you. What was there? Was the scenery good?
Y: Well, the scenery was good, but... we wrote songs and stuff there. It's a place of memories for the members of my old band. Something would rise up and we'd say "We've gotta go there!"
-What was Gackt like back then?
Y: He'd already cut his hair then, so the impression was completely different. How should I say it...like...unexpectedly an honors student type??
C: You've gotta be kidding!
Y: It seemed he genuinely loved music.
C: Like a little boy?
Y: Doesn't Gaku have a feeling like "This guy's definetly studied classical!"?
C: Ah!
Y: It's exactly that feeling
C: A feeling like how when you were a child, you used to perform and stuff in your uniform with those tiny shorts?
Y: Yes, yes, yes!!!
- Well then, seeing as you've both known Gackt for a long time, please tell us some of his weak points you know.
C: Mmm...it seems like he should have them but doesn't!
Y: He has them in spades, but he's the type who will dig deep to overcome it if you say "Isn't this a weak spot?"
-Then what's a weak spot Gackt has overcome?
Y: For example...his body was stiff.
C: Ah, he wasn't as flexible as he is now. But when people point it out he'll make it perfect. Repeating that over and over, he'll gradually be the perfect Gackt. So he won't have weak points. There won't be any.
Y: He's an all rounder at sports, so generally if it's a sport that uses the body, he'll soon be good enough to play anyone. In an instant! The one sport he couldn't play was bowling. When we all went out to play a punishment game, I got put on the same team as Gaku. I thought "I'm safe with Gaku~!" but he couldn't bowl at all (laughs). "I haven't really been bowling before..." (laughs).
-But he's overcome that now?
Y: I've heard he scores over 200 now!!!
C: If he decides he'll do something, he'll do nothing but that aaaaaaallllllllways.
Y: Not doing anything at random, I've come up with this theory of mine. I'm always thinking it's something like "If I do this, this will happen". Gaku Theory. But even if other people do it the same way, it won't work (laughs).

C: Whaat?? I've never seen anything like that, but, is Gaku a fast runner?
Y: I've seen him run! He's so fast on the treadmill, it's terrifying (laughs). When we went to the gym together, he ran with amazing speed like an athlete thumpthumpthumpthump It was amazing! He ran for about an hour at full speed!! That there is a demon.
(Note: The onomatopoeia You is saying here is "ZaZaZaZa", which is the sound of footsteps running very fast. There's not really an English equivalent, so I guessed the thumpthumpthump of Gackt's footsteps on the treamill was as close as I could get... It doesn't really have the same connotations of speed though...)
C: (huge laugh) That can't be possible!!! Absolutely not!!!
Y: Just watching from nearby was amazing. He was really running the whole time like thumpthumpthumpthumpthump, I was like "Whooooa"
C: (huge laugh) Without even breaking a sweat?? (lit. changing colour of face/expression)
Y: Yeah. He looked completely normal. I thought he probably didn't have long distance endurance, but it seems he's overcome that
C: He really doesn't have them, does he?? Weak points. It's kinda irritating.
Y: Ah! Cockroaches!!
C: Oh yeah!!
-What is Gackt's reaction when he encounters a cockroach?
Y: He gets really tense! A long time ago when he came to hang out at my place, because it was a fairly old house, cockroaches were constantly darting out. I was used to the sound of them rustling across the floor so it didn't bother me, but, when he heard the sound Gaku always looked nervous and kept lifting his feet off the ground. He reaaally doesn't like them, it seems. He stayed with his feet up the whole time (laughs). I guess its something he can't overcome, right??
C: He's told why he doesn't like cockroaches, right? Okinawa! A long time ago when he lived there, a huge swarm flew in through the window!!
Y: A black mass buzzed in and beat themselves against the window!!! That's why his weak point is cockroaches!!
C: But if a cockroach appears, you can kill it even with a toy, can't you!? Instantly!! (laughs)
- We've been honoured to have you two participate in a lot of fanclub events until now, but what's your number one memory from the trips?
Both: Yukiyama's ("A Silver Night and A Snow Game") tug of war!
C: That was hard!! We knew the experience level of the fans who participated, but using muscles so much that you don't normally use...I think even people who practiced tug of war on a regular basis would have found new muscles to use! When we finished pulling the thick rope, we were all swaying on our feet. But every time we won, our strength...
Y: I was in the overall champion team for the year, but it was seriously tough! It was the toughest thing ever!!
C: Really?! (laughs)
- This years Yukiyama was in the middle of a blizzard but...
Y: It was amazing~!!
C: It was cold~!!
Y: Everyone had snow covering the top of their heads (laughs). That's right~. I think everyone had fun, but it was definitely hard on the team leaders! They had to somehow organise 70 people. That was difficult.
C: They were like school teachers.
Y: Yeah. But there aren't 70 people in a school club! Organising them by yourself...Using your physical strength in the cold...was harsh...But we don't get to be that close with everyone and enjoy ourselves that often. Recently, rather than focusing on win or lose, there's been a feeling like "I must enjoy myself~"
-I'd like to make this a regular corner in future "MONTHLY GG"s, but what should we do here?
C: I'd like to do things we haven't done until now.
Y: Ah! I want to try different restaurants!! I'm a level B gourmet (laughs). We'll go to Kanda and stuff! I'd even like to try different Ramen restaurants~. Even just Ramen, I easily go to over 100 places. And I have a moped (laughs). We can go like brrbrrrrbrrrrmmm along!! While we're on tour, we'll tour all the Ramen shops in Japan too!
-Because You-san writes a blog, we can imagine his private life, but Chacha-san's private life is a mystery.
Y: Seriously! I work with him and it's a mystery! Do you cook or anything?
C: Why the hell would I do that! I can't even boil rice. I don't even have a microwave. I think I have plates out of obligation~. I've got a frypan, but I've never used it.
Y: Can I ask what Chacha-san's recommended date plan is!?
C: Hmm~~ Can't you just keep driving!? A date plan. Searching for one is horrible~. Shouldn't we just go somewhere without limiting our plans?
- That's good~!! If theres a restaurant you want to go to , you can plan it together! Anyway, please decide on a title for this corner.
Y: I think... to play off "--- Shuran" "Y Shuran" sounds good~~~!!! (shuran= "drunken frenzy". I get the impression he's playing on another title with the word shuran in it)
C: Seriously?? That's fast! Well, when I go somewhere in my car, I call it Pi-chan. Ah! It's cause I give names to cars and objects (laughs)
-Why is it "Pi-chan"?
C: I once kept a budgerigar that was the same shade of yellow, so it's Pi-chan! (laughs) Hmm...how about "GO!GO! Pi-chan!"!?

-"MONTHLY GG" is out now, have you read it? What were your first impressions, and have you linked to it?
If we're talking about whether I've linked to it or not, theres still a lot of room for improvement. But because there aren't really any other artists releasing a web magazine monthly like this, it's kind of a new experiment, right? Because of that, it's a big step forward from the way Dears has been up until now. Furthermore, because you need editorial staff to release one issue a month, it becomes a big burden to the fanclub and production staff, right? If I think about that, you've done well. I want the fans to feel even more satisfied with the merits of joining the fanclub. So from now on I want all the fans to participate in the subject of the "MONTHLY GG" and make it better together!...is the point I want to make now. "This is how the fanclub will be from now on", looking at it like that is a good start, I think. It'll rapidly get better from now.
By the way, in the surveys from the fans, what they were hoping for most was of course big photos of Gackt. Can we have a few more after this?
Sure (laughs).
-At last you've begun the recording, how does it feel?
I'm about to blow my fuse (laughs). Theres a lot of difference between the times we can do it and the times we can't. When we can do the songs, we can really do them in an instant. However, when we can't, of course, it's extremely tiresome. In "Production", there's a feeling like suffering. A while ago I was talking to YOU, saying when we can't we really can't, but when we can it comes out really well. Saying so, it's not like we can get a good result by only recording when it comes out easily, it's because we vomit up so much in the painful times the good periods can visit again. So now we're just repeating ourselves "It's painful..." "It's coming out~"
-Do you feel that it is only by having the painful parts that you can make a good album?
I don't know if I can say unconditionally that it's a good album because it's painful. But in that suffering, there are a lot of things that appear at times when you suddenly find strength. Creating an album feels really good. Last year and the last six months, because I've been doing dramas and movies all that time, the time I spent together with the band members was very short and I couldn't do anything but keep in touch. But now I'm mostly around YOU and Chacha, more than just make music, I can talk about "is this interesting or not?" and such... Because making music isn't just writing songs. Bumping into things, worrying. In unexpected and familiar places, even if I'm worried, I have many friends to help me out, so the result comes out good. Especially in recording, many players offer their voices to me. I have good meetings through this. The person who is drumming for me this time is amazing. He's "A drummer that wants to sing". Not "A drummer who finds it easy to sing", "A drummer who wants to sing". Hearing the sight and sound of that person playing makes me want to sing to myself. He's that kind of drummer. When I first heard him, it came to me so firmly. At that time, YOU wasn't around, so I specially emailed him seeming all wide eyed (laughs). Yesterday was also recording my bassist...I was moved. My heart shook. Of course, he's "A bassist that wants to sing". There aren't many "bassists that want to sing". He has artistic sentiment in his instrument. If the people performing have artistic sentiment in their instruments, it will be great! I was moved for the first time in a long time. Theres a lot of perfectly sufficient "players that find it easy to sing". I say things like "This person finds it easy to sing". But "players that want to sing" are extremely rare. How do I say it... The people who give me a push, maybe. For a player, there are many steps, firstly the band and the music...Those that have the technique to fascinate me skillfuly with all of that. The next ones are "those that find it easy to sing". After all, above them are "the ones that want to sing".
-By that, do you mean the interactions with people around you is the esscence of the album this time?
It really is chemistry. Honestly, doing recording up until now, until then I hadn't felt the chemistry. But this time I feel it a lot.
-It's your first album in three years since DIABOLOS. During that time, are there parts of the "Gackt worldview" that have changed?
In my music up until now, there was a lot of difficult orchestration and complex composition, so it was a difficult production, I think. As opposed to making sounds for this album, I thought "What kind of theme should I do?" like I said in the previous conversation (MONTHLY GG 8/4). However at any rate, I want to deliver the sounds firmly in a way that makes your chest tighten the instant they sound out. When I make it like that, up until now, I put a lot of sounds in to the point of making complicated music, in the long run when I go over it in my head, it became difficult music. This time, I'm saying I want it to be that as soon as you put the CD on, you'll hear it like "DUUUUN~" and it will make a strong first impression in just one strike. Therefore, musically... the violent, punkish parts...the progressive parts are really coming through. That "progressive"-ness isn't the kind of progressiveness that comes from making the sounds complicated, it means organization and expansion. Because there are a lot of those elements in it, it's violent. If I use the example of waves, it's a feeling like "A hurricane is coming!" (laughs). It's something that hasn't been in the recent "Gackt sound". The truth is, it's because this tour is a continuation of "Requiem et Reminiscence", and the "Rebirth" album. It's not just the difference in worldview between the music existing in the story known as "MOON SAGA" connecting the albums from MOON to DIABOLOS and the music that exists in the story called "Requiem et Reminiscence", I feel inside myself that I want to change the sound as well, so "Requiem et Reminiscence" and "MOON SAGA" can be clearly defined. There's still many changes to come out in the sound. Still besides, it isn't quite settled so that you can feel the worldview of the lyrics, I'm stuck in between many meanings. It's just that my course of action is to write expressive lyrics, and use a lot of difficult words and imagery, but I've been told by Chacha "It's straight".
-I don't think there are many artists that think about the tour when making the album, but Gackt starts making an album before thinking about the tour, right?
I wonder how comfortable it is just to write songs. From the beginning I'm thinking about how to show the theme and worldview based on a concert, so because I'm making an album, it surely takes time. It's kind of like making a movie. I want to proceed showing the entirety of the work. That's the method of expression I use when I can be myself. If you only heard my songs, you might get the part where you think "these are difficult songs", but when you see the concert, you should be able to grasp the threads in the difficult parts. Those who know my songs, but haven't seen the concerts...I definetly want you to bring those people along. If they're saying "What's a Gackt?", they'll definetly understand when they see the concert.
-By the way, is the song you're recording at the moment going to be a single?
Because I'm just recording the songs in the order they come, I haven't really thought about it. When I make a work, I want to make it something where "the level of the work is high", so honestly I don't want to make things in a way where I'm aiming for "singles". I'll just have a feeling somehow where "I wonder if this mightn't be a single?"
-Can we have a hint about one of the songs you feel this about?
"Flower" is used as a keyword in one of the subtopics of this tour. In a subplot of the story of this tour, I've studded the word "flower" and am thinking about how to entwine it within the story. How can I expand the imaginations of everyone in Dears? There are two kinds of "souzou", aren't there? " 想像” and "創造” (Note: These Japanese words are both read souzou, however the first one is "imagination" and the second is "creativity"). I want you to make images inside your head, and then construct things. I want you to think until the beginning (of the tour), "isn't it like this?" and have wild fantasies of the possibilities. Because there should definitely be something inside the fans I can raise up through stirring these "wild fantasies".
-I hear that as you proceed with the recording, the mood is gradually boiled down, but is there any particular "Gackt style" of taking a break?
Hmm, what is it?...Go enjoy the nightlife!! maybe. If you just keep going to sleep after holing yourself up in the studio all day, it's unpleasant. There's something I came to know well during filming the movie in Romania... I was working a hard schedule from Monday to Saturday, and I think if I was a normal Japanese person, on Saturday night I would have just said "Work's finally over! I'll go home and sleep!", but those guys in Hollywood are different. Even though they had to be completely exhausted on Saturday night, they'd go out at night (laughs). It's because what gets tired the most is your "soul". Therefore to take away this exhaustion, the thing you need most is "fun". You can take away your tiredness by sleeping in your break, but the one thing you can't take away or ignore is the tiredness in your soul that can't be removed by sleeping. So when you're tired, go play instead! I think this is an important point. What enabled me to regain my pace in Romania was going out on Saturday nights. The first time I went out there was a huge rush of people saying "Gackt finally came!". After that we kept drinking until 7am, but honestly I thought when we were drinking "these guys are definetely weird!!". But after that, mysteriously, when I went back to the hotel and slept for only 2-3 hours, when I opened my eyes I was refreshed. It's a method of refreshing oneself the Japanese can't do. It's okay if you don't actually drink anything. The act of having fun, as long as you go out and open your heart, doesn't matter what kind of fun it is.
-This is changing the subject, but how was your birthday this year?
Because I spent the day itself quietly on my own, there was no real activity. I'd gone overseas and a birthday like that can be good too (laughs).
-When you got back, everyone celebrated with you, was there a surprise?
Up until last year, my friends, aquaintances and colleagues would go on a one day spree...that kind of party. But this year, since I was overseas, I thought I might pass it peacefully, but I was dead wrong. When I got home everyone congratulated me one by one; "since your birthday passed already" "then we'll celebrate it for you!" so the one wild party became spread out (laughs). That went on for so many days, I thought "Of course, the people who put it together are good..."
-This year's birthday marks 10 years since you went solo, so it's kind of special. Are you thinking of anything aimed at the fans?
Someday, I want to have a party with all my fans. I've had the experience of all getting excited together at lives, but that wasn't for my birthday. That said, next years birthday... I haven't thought about (laughs). If I were to celebrate my 10th anniversary and birthday together, I think I would like to do something together with my fans.
-About your recent condition...hasn't your body got a little bigger?
Everyone says "you're getting bigger, you're getting bigger", but my weight hasn't actually changed. I've lost as much fat as possible, but my body fat percentage hasn't actually changed. It's just hovering around 7-8%. However, recently I went back to Okinawa to do some gravekeeping but...everyone welcomed me home and my body fat percentage went up to 10% (laughs). It was like "Why did I come back here again?"
-It sounds like your gravekeeping was difficult again?
The tomb was a Okinawan style "Munchuuhaka" (門中墓- literally tomb/grave in a gate o_O) but had been reconstructed about 20 years ago, and was ridiculously huge. There's a Capsule House in Dragonball, right? A long time ago, (they built things) with that kind of feel, so ridiculously big I can't understand the point of it!... I say these things, but they might be rude to a bigger person (laugh). It was in the forest, but it was in a condition like it had been left alone for 400 years. Tending to it took six hours. The truth was, I was going to bring YOU along to help me clean it this time, but I think maybe he broke it off mid journey and went home (laughs).

-I think after this is the final stage of recording, but can we have just one more word from Gackt?
"日々此神力入魂" (Note: WTF, Gackt, is that even a word!? If I just translate the kanji one by one, it's something like "day after day"-"this god"- "power"- "put into"-"soul", but...WTF, Gackt? *sigh*). If I push the schedule I have now, I think I'll end up pushing the tour again too. I will definitely avoid that. I'm doing my best (laughs). Also, you all need to study in preparation. You should make way for the entirety of a work connected to "Rebirth". For this tour, hints and information to prepare you will be released piece by piece on the website and in this "MONTHLY GG". Afterwards, I plan to release homework pointing towards the tour. By instructing you with those too, I hope to expand your wild imaginings.

-In that case, what about a promotion talk?
If a script is prepared for me, I can say lines I've memorised perfectly, and can read a script with no problems. For example, if I'm told, "Say this like a Chinese person", then I can. My pronunciation is good. It's just because I don't remember vocabulary a free talk would be impossible.
-So you can speak it up to that point, but a free talk is too hard, right?
I think it would be impossible to speak normally unless I remember 10,000-20,000 words. Well, around that.
